InSight Mars Lander

Maybe you have already noticed InSight Mars Lander mission. Let's talk about the mission goals and plans.

InSight = Interior Exploration using Seismic Investigation, Geodesy and Hear Transport, is a NASA mission to Mars to study its deep interior. It will also help to understand the process of the shape and formation of the rocket planets, such as Earth. Because Mars has not been so geologically active as Earth, it keeps its history more clear. So, by studying Mars we will get also information about the Earth's evolution.

Main objective of the mission is to seek for better understanding of the evolution and formation of the rocky planet, by the investigation of the Mars interior and its processes, tectonic activity and meteorite impacts.

InSight was launched on May 5, 2018. Atlas V rocket was used to lift off InSight from Space Launch Complex 3 at Vandenberg Air Force Base in California.

The mission consists of pre launch activities, launch, cruise, approach, landing and operation on the surface (the mission goal). Every step is important for the success of the mission. After successful launch, the trip to Mars takes about 6 months. That far we have to wait right now for the next step. Meanwhile several tasks have to be performed, such as check ups and maintenance configuration, attitude correction turns, navigation adjustments, and do not forget on the preparation activities for the entry, descent, landing, and surface activities.

Let's follow the mission!!

Short Updates:

May 6, 2018: Separation from the upper stage of Atlas V rocket was confirmed. Now, it is on 6 month journey to Mars.
